Inspiring All to Protect the Most Vulnerable and Defend Democratic Values
The Cassandra Athena Project is committed to educating and empowering individuals to resist authoritarianism, promote democratic values, and take meaningful action to challenge the dangerous policies and rhetoric of the next Trump presidency through advocacy, community engagement, and strategic resistance.
The best way to achieve this goal is through collaboration with like-minded people who bring a variety of skills and talent to the table. Our goal is to form a constellation of Cassandra Athena groups across the country, all working towards justice by protecting the vulnerable. Together, we will build a resilient, informed, and proactive society ready to confront the challenges of our time.
On November 6, 2024 I woke up in real fear. I was confounded that there could possibly be a second Trump presidency. This year, he was convicted and found guilty of 34 felonies related to campaign violations stemming from 2016. He was found to be an adjudicated rapist. We discovered in 2022 that he stole classified documents and tried to cover up the theft. He orchestrated the overturning of Roe v. Wade and continues to boast about it.
Most of those who served in his former cabinet do not support him for a second term. His generals talk openly about his threat to democracy. And, when he failed to win in 2020, he led an insurrection against this country that was live streamed!!!
Half a million more Americans died because the Trump administration refused to acknowledge the seriousness of the COVID-19 pandemic. Moreover, his dismantling of the early warning system for communicable diseases that Obama had established directly contributed to the pandemic.
He added $8 TRILLION to our national debt.
It seemed impossible for him to gain the White House again, yet here we are.
Part of me wanted to run: just sell the house, pack up and move to a more rational country. But I've never been a quitter. And I'm an American. I believe in democracy and freedom and the rights of all people. I love that this nation does not have a 23 and Me category because being an American is not a single identity but the experience of being part of a multicultural, multiethnic society. I married a Marine, damnit, and have always been proud of his service.
This gameshow host was not going to drive me off of my own land. But what could I do?
Then I reflected on the advice I provide to clients during crises:
Taking my own fantastic advice, I decided to do what I do best and case manage the sh*t out of this situation.
I know how to research, I know how to connect with people, and I can organize a website dedicated to helping those who feel left out of this country find their way back in.
On this website, you will find links to organizations that are well-established in their fight against Trump. You will also find information on how to combat misinformation and how to work to overcome feelings of helplessness when it comes to global problems like climate change. We even have a section on self-care. To be an advocate—whether for a nonbinary teen in your community or for a warming planet—means understanding that to be effective and resilient in your efforts for others, you must also take time to care for yourself.
Much Love,
Mary
