The Cassandra Athena Project

The Cassandra Athena Project is committed to educating and empowering individuals to resist authoritarianism, promote democratic values, and take meaningful action to challenge the dangerous policies and rhetoric of the next Trump presidency through advocacy, community engagement, and strategic resistance.

The best way to achieve this goal is through collaboration with like-minded people who bring a variety of skills and talent to the table. Our goal is to form a constellation of Cassandra Athena groups across the country, all working towards justice by protecting the vulnerable. Together, we will build a resilient, informed, and proactive society ready to confront the challenges of our time.

Who was Cassandra?

In Greek Mythology, Cassandra was a princess and the daughter of the king and queen of Troy. She was incredibly beautiful and caught the attention of the god Apollo. In an attempt to win her affection, he granted her the power of prophecy. However, when she rejected him, he cursed her: she would continue to foresee the future, but no one would believe her predictions.

Who was Athena?

Athena was the goddess protector of Athens. This mythological figure represented the core values that defined the city. She stands for intellectual integrity, civic responsibility, arts and culture, justice, and a defense of democracy—qualities that are seen as a threat by MAGA. As a powerful female figure who represents both strength and fairness, Athena is also a figure of empowerment for those who are fighting for more inclusive, reasoned, and ethical governance. She is a unifying symbol for those engaged in resistance, advocating for an America that upholds democratic values, justice, and intellectual engagement.

We ARE Cassandra and Athena

Most people say, "We all survived the first Trump presidency." As if that were:

a) an acceptable baseline, and

b) TRUE!

Research estimates that hundreds of thousands of Americans died directly due to the inaction of the Trump Administration to the COVID pandemic.  Currently, women in the United States are dying due to lack of access to reproductive healthcare because of the Trump abortion bans

So no, not everyone survived his first term.

With his second term we have to contend with the Supreme Court's ruling that gave the sitting president unheard of power, and Trump's own claim to be a dictator on day one

We can see what's coming, not as prophets but as educated people who are worried for our once beloved democracy. And we know we must act to defend this democracy and those most vulnerable among us. The overwhelming question may be ...

Where to Start?

Combating a second Trump term is not just about opposing an individual or political party but about defending democratic principles, protecting human rights, and ensuring that the United States remains a nation that upholds justice, and equality. By taking collective action across the areas of activism, fundraising, legal advocacy, and coalition-building, we can create a more resilient, informed, and empowered movement that can confront the challenges ahead.

To help you choose the form of activism or support that best fits your capacity to contribute meaningfully to this cause, it is important to assess your personal strengths, your values, and the needs of the moment.

  • Start by reflecting on your own passions. Consider where your values lie and whether there is a policy that impacts those values.
  • Next, consider how involved you want to be. Can you contribute time or money? How much can you dedicate?
  • Lastly, take that leap of faith and join an organization that resonates with your values.

Legal Advocacy

Join or support organizations challenging unconstitutional executive orders or policies in court, particularly those related to civil rights, voting rights, and the freedoms we treasure. This includes defending abortion rights, protecting immigrants and LGBTQ rights, and advocating for environmental protections.

You can join the ACLU, the Southern Poverty Law Center, or the NAACP. These groups fight for civil liberties and legal protections for vulnerable communities. EarthJustice has achieved an 85% success rate in challenging the Trump administration's anti-environmental laws during its first term. These organizations and others can be found in this website's Legal Advocacy tab

Donate

If direct action does not suit you, many organizations have had a success rate combating the previous administration's agenda that could use your financial support.

Financial contributions empower these groups to challenge harmful policies, protect vulnerable communities, and ensure that the political system remains accountable to the people. In a time of deep political division and widespread misinformation, donations help sustain the vital work of resistance, education, and advocacy that is needed to safeguard the future of the nation.

On this website, there are lists of dozens of organizations combatting Climate Change, seeking equal treatment for All People, or looking to Legally Advocate for democracy and vulnerable populations.

Civil Discourse

Since the GOP controls ALL branches of government, we must work to promote respectful and informed discussions with people who support Trump’s agenda. Feels impossible, right? However, understanding their concerns, combatting misinformation, and finding common ground can help reduce polarization in the long term. It honestly is one of the only ways we can move forward as a nation.

Good public policy does not fit on a billboard, nor can it be properly explained in a 30-second TikTok video. We need to work to educate the populace. This includes educating younger voters (e.g., college students and first-time voters) who were brought up in the post-9/11 mass shooting era, where politicians offered only "thoughts and prayers" for the deaths of their classmates. They have grown up with a cynicism that is daunting to combat.

We also need to connect with older voters who may feel apprehensive about the progressive changes occurring in this country. We all share a fear of the new to some degree.

It is imperative to create space for bipartisan opposition to the Trump agenda. Click here for a guide on how to reach out to others!
